What an exciting and busy week! We have been writing stories and book reviews based on our key text ‘Leon and the Place Between’. The children are building up great stamina and independence to write longer pieces of text. We are so proud of how far they have come in 7 weeks!
In maths, we have been using our knowledge of place value to add and subtract using the column method. The children are tackling words problems by using this strategy to help them.
In VIPERS, we have been analysing poetry and the children are becoming more confident when answering questions, and more fluent in reading texts.
Sadly, we are coming to the end of our history and science topics, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed. Next term we will be learning about climate and weather in Geography, Food and our bodies in Science and we will be starting weekly music lessons.
When your child has finished their reading book, please send it back in their plastic school bag. They can take an online quiz to check their understanding and then bring a new book home with them. This school bag will be used to bring their iPad to school every day after the half term break.
Have a wonderful half term and thank you for all of your support!
This week in Literacy, we have been writing a parallel narrative based on one of the characters from Leon and the Place Between. We created a story map to plot the story and then wrote it up in paragraphs. The children are really beginning to implement their spellings into their writing. They are using a wide range of punctuation and expanded noun phrases.
In maths we are continuing to add and subtract using 3 digit numbers. The children are becoming more confident at using the column method when regrouping.
We are coming near the end of our Stone age to Iron age learning and the children have shown great enthusiasm for this. In art we have been exploring how to create tone and mood by creating light and shadow.
Please keep practising the times tables and spellings we send home each week.
This week Year 3 have been enjoying reading our class text ‘Leon and the Place Between’. We have been using expanded noun phrases to describe the setting and writing a recount in the role of Leon.
In Maths we've been learning all about the place value of hundreds, tens and ones. We are moving on to addition and subtraction using the column method. Maybe you could explore the maths factor website as a family – see who can get the highest score!
Here are some photos of our learning this week! The children are working so hard and we are really proud of how they have adapted to KS2. Please keep practicing the weekly spellings and times tables that we are sending home.
In Science we have been learning about the different parts of soil. Our topic is Rocks, Soil and Fossils.
Ask your children what they can remember about our History Project ‘Stone age to the Iron age’.
Times tables are essential mathematical skills and we teach them in some form every day. With a sound understanding, children are able to progress their numeracy skills and become more confident with numbers.
When it comes to times tables, speed AND accuracy are important. We would like to ask you to help your son/daughter with some times tables practise for 5 minutes a day. There are many websites specifically set up to help children make rapid progress and build their confidence. Here are three that you can use:
When all children have access to their own iPad we will be providing them with a number of additional websites and apps to support their progress. More details will follow. In the time being, you can use a pen and paper, do verbal practise or even sing them.
Any time you can spend supporting your child to improve their times table will make a big difference.
