This is the overview of our Music Curriculum which covers all of the knowledge and enquiry skills set out in the National Curriculum for Music for Key Stages 1 and 2. The Units are progressive and repeat coverage of the same unit will take children on further and deeper in their understanding. For more details, please see the National Curriculum online for specific year group coverage or speak to your child’s class teacher.
As part of the Year 5 and Year 6 curriculum all of the children will learn to play the ukulele. Each child will be provided with their own ukulele and lessons will be taught weekly with a professional ukulele teacher, Danielle Greenwood of the Uke Lift Project.
The Uke Lift Project was founded by Danielle, originally from Texas, but residing in England for the past 23 years. Her past professional work experience has been teaching/delivering community projects in both mainstream and SEN schools/settings for over 20 years. She has been teaching ukulele to adults and children for 10 years in both private and public settings. She is experienced in teaching music to adults and children of all abilities. Previous group lessons have ranged from 3-50 pupils.
Danielle has been in many touring bands over the years and her last band was an all-female, 20+ members rock/punk ukulele band but has now retired from the touring life and her mission is now to share the gift of music.
