Year 2 are assessed in May against end of Key Stage descriptors in Reading, Writing and Maths. These assessments are based on teacher judgements and written assessments that the children will complete. The academy's approach to assessment is built into regular classroom practice from Reception, so that assessment tasks are not daunting or worrying for the children.
If you would like any further information on the assessment procedures in Year 2 please speak to your child's class teacher.
At Oasis Academy Marksbury Road we use The Power of Reading to teach our English Curriculum. This involves the children being immersed in high quality literature and learning to write through engagement with these texts.
Children at our academy learn to read through phonics (see Curriculum tab) and we use the Oxford Reading Tree Scheme as our home-school learning to read programme. In addition to this, children in Year 2 also receive regular Guided Reading sessions with teachers and teaching assistants to improve their comprehension skills.
The attached documents outline the learning objectives covered in both Reading and Writing throughout Year 2.
At Oasis Academy Marksbury Road we use ‘Maths Mastery’ to teach our Maths Curriculum. This involves the children having practical, hand on experiences to make Maths real to them. They use a range of equipment in their lessons to support their mathematical understanding and then have chance to work in pairs or groups on ‘talk’ tasks, before they complete their independent activities.
The attached document outline the learning objectives covered in Maths throughout Year 2.
At Oasis Academy Marksbury Road we deliver our Science Curriculum in line with the national curriculum for Key Stage 1. This is often integrated into termly project learning, but occasionally sits as a stand alone unit of work.
