Mini Olympics 2026
When is the Mini Olympics day?
Thursday 25th June 2026
What will children need to bring?
-
Wear their OAMR PE kit with their house-coloured T-Shirt.
-
Wear comfortable and appropriate trainers (no unsuitable footwear such as sandals, crocs or boots).
-
Bring a water bottle and sun hat.
-
Apply suncream before coming to school and bring suncream with them.
-
NO JEWELLERY. (If your child has recently had their ears pierced, studded earrings can be worn).
Where will it be?
-
Broad Plain Rugby Club, a 10-minute walk along Marksbury Road. Children will walk to and from the venue. We encourage Parent/Carers to support with the walk. Spectators who cannot support with the walk should arrive at the venue for their child’s time slot.
What are the timings?
-
Year 4, Year 5 & Year 6 – Will arrive at the venue ready to start at 9:30am. They will leave the venue at 11:30am to return to our academy for lunchtime.
-
EYFS, Year 1, Year 2 & Year 3 – Will arrive at the venue ready to start at 1:10pm. It will finish at 2:55pm. Parents are allowed to collect their children from Broad Plain at 2:55pm for a slightly earlier finish. Any children not collected by 3:05pm will walk back to OAMR for a normal 3:20pm collection.
How will lunchtimes work?
-
Children will have lunch at the school as normal.
-
If possible, we encourage children to bring in their own packed lunch on this day to ensure a smooth and speedy lunch, however this is not mandatory, and normal lunches will be served by our kitchen.
Marksbury Road Mini Olympics day terminology?
-
We refer to sports day as ‘Mini Olympics Day’. This allows our children to link their knowledge they have through the curriculum and spread the Olympic spirit and values; Excellence, Respect, and Friendship, rather than promote a win at all costs/over competitive attitude.
How can Parents/Carers help and support?
-
Please read and adhere to the Code of Conduct below.
-
To keep the children safe and sheltered from the sun (or rain!) we are kindly asking to borrow Gazebos. If you have a Gazebo that you would be willing to lend us for the event, please could you email pe@oasismarksburyroad.org or let the academy office know. We kindly ask you to support by bringing the Gazebo to Broad Plain Rugby Club at 8:00am to set it up. Please remember to collect it at 3:15pm.
-
Access is via Marksbury Road, not via Bristol Southend. For safeguarding reasons, entrance via Bristol Southend will not be permitted.
-
There will be no access to toilet facilities for any spectators, so please consider this if you choose to attend.
-
Due to safeguarding, we must insist that photos and filming do not take place. We have a growing number of children who could be in danger if they were recognised on social media in their school PE kit. Also, watching the event is so much more enjoyable than filming it.
-
For this event to run smoothly and safely, we require willing parent/carer helpers on the day to support with walking to the venue. Please complete the below forms.
- Year 4, Year 5 & Year 6 Form – Marksbury Road Mini Olympics Day (Sports Day) Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 - 4/6/26 – Fill in form
- Year EYFS, Year 1, Year 2 & Year 3 Form – Marksbury Road Mini Olympics Day (Sports Day) EYFS, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 - 4/6/26 – Fill in form
Code of Conduct
A Sports Day code of conduct ensures a fair, respectful, and fun environment for all participants. It outlines expected behaviours, including respect for officials, opponents, and teammates, adherence to rules, and promoting positive attitudes regardless of the outcome.
Unfortunately, in the past we had to stop parents/carers and family members from attending Sport’s Day because of a small group of spectator’s conduct, which was upsetting for the children and staff. Some of the previous behaviours included: Not staying in the designated areas to watch and support. Shouting and swearing. Photographing and filming children. Challenging staff about their child not winning or not being ready.
This year we would love to have Sports Day with parents/carers and family members attending. We know it is something that parents and carers really want to be involved in and we really want you to be there. The fundraising Mini Marathon, the Spring Fayre and Eid celebrations were a huge success, and we feel positive that this will be too. We want everyone to have a fun day!
Key elements of a Sports Day code of conduct:
-
Respect: Treat all participants, officials, and spectators with respect. Show respect for the game and the rules.
-
Fair Play: Adhere to the rules and regulations of the game and play fairly.
-
Good Sportsmanship: Accept both victory and defeat with grace. Win with modesty and lose with dignity.
-
Positive Attitude: Encourage teamwork and positive behaviour, including cheering and applauding good play by all teams/participants.
-
No Harassment or Bullying: Use respectful and appropriate language. No bullying or harassment of any kind.
-
Safety: Ensure safety by following instructions, wearing appropriate attire, and reporting any injuries.
-
Respect for Property: Take care of school property and equipment.
-
Parental/Guardian Support: Parents and guardians should encourage all children to try their best and be good athletes, be supportive and positive to everybody, and refrain from excessive criticism or harsh language. This day is a celebration which will allow our children to demonstrate the many areas of learning that they do within their PE lessons.
-
Spectators who fail to adhere to our Code of Conduct will be asked to leave the event.
